Will newspaper advertising survive?

Warren Buffet seems to think that newspapers are doomed as a source of revenue and profit. If that is the case, then a whole range of human pleasures will be lost.

Going out of the house (furtively) in your pyjamas to get the dew-laden paper.

Coming back inside with a steaming cup of brew and the tactile enjoyment of that, mixed with the feel of newsprint between your fingers. I’m showing my age, but Twitter doesn’t give the same satisfaction or sense of relaxation.

The newspaper format gives the advertiser an opportunity/challenge to inform/attract/stimulate in a fixed space. Often this produces spectacularly clever results that the net (which is the lazy ad-man’s way of “communication”) is hard pressed to math in attraction and results.

For all the hype, the death of newspapers is greatly exaggerated. They will evolve but they will survive.

Hooray for newsprint and fingers!
