I wonder what would happen if….

The great temptation in advertsing is to do more than make the best of the product or service. This can be subtle and clever. There is a partcular energy drink which promises “wings”. And it is done on TV with imagination and entertainment.

In one commercial it appears to promise masculine sexual prowess as well. Is this “doing more’? Only those users can tell. But if it does not, the promise is limp. (Pardon me.)

And it is not only products or services. It is in religion. Does the white suited evangelist really heal? Does the exploded martyr really get the flock of virgins? Is Christianity delivered with unrealistic expectations in the Christo-tainment from Hillsong?

I wonder what would happen if “Truth Well Told” - the motto of McCann Worldwide for 100 years actually applied to Politics and the recent Federal Election?

Our society is being oversold by our communications. Clever they may be. But without the truth we are left as Pilate in a judgement where we can only wash our hands and mutter sadly, “What is Truth?”.

It has huge implications for our future.
